Creating Drask "Soulfang" Shadowfur with ChatGPT and Dragonbane

In part one, we explored what our journey of learning with ChatGPT, Dragonbane, and Mythic GME would entail.

As I started reading through the Dragonbane rulebook, I quickly ran into my first opportunity to ask AI for clarification. While going through the character creation process, I came across something that wasn’t immediately clear to me. This made it the perfect moment to turn to ChatGPT for help.

I decided to create a Wolfkin Hunter named Drask “Soulfang” Shadowfur—a true badass on a mission to find supplies and food for his family. As I worked through his attributes, I came across the term “key attribute”, which left me confused. So, I asked ChatGPT, “Does having a key attribute give a direct bonus?” It explained that while the key attribute doesn’t provide a direct bonus, it determines the starting values of all related skills.

That led me to my next question: How do I apply these values to all my skills, and how does the key attribute factor in? ChatGPT gave me a clear, step-by-step explanation of how to assign the stats for my Wolfkin, making the process much easier.

For me, this approach was far more convenient than flipping back and forth through the rulebook. I had already read through it before starting character creation, but I tend to use it more as a reference when I get stuck on specific rulings. Having a conversational way to go through the process made it much more engaging. Plus, I picked up some extra tips and tricks that I wouldn’t have found in the rulebook alone.

Initially, I had planned to use ChatGPT mostly as a creative brainstorming tool—a way to spark new ideas when I felt stuck. But using it for rule clarification turned out to be an unexpected, yet incredibly useful, addition to my solo RPG experience. The more I experiment with ChatGPT, the more I realize just how many ways it can enhance my games.
